About Roland

It is my belief that it is possible to make a difference, to make  a difference in people’s lives

Outlook & Approach

I have a very personalised and individualised approach to Counselling, Psychotherapy and Learning.

Being a person from a minority ethnic group, I have an acute understanding of the inequality of   access   to, and   availability   of, appropriate psychological services for Black, African, South Asian and Caribbean people.

The service I offer is part of the solution to this issue because it is accessible   and   appropriate   for   clients   from   a wide variety of cultures and ethnicities, and for those who are affected by prejudice. Respect, sensitivity, and   compassion   are   the pillars   upon   which   my   treatment   planning   is based. I never stereotype and do not believe in stigmatising   labels.    As   the   person   seeking assistance, your   aim   is   to   find   the   therapist whose experience and therapeutic style meets your   needs.   If   my   approach   and   style   match that you are looking for in a therapist, I invite you   to   take   the   next   step   to   begin   our   work together.

Experience

Member of the Association for Family Therapy and   Systemic   Practice   and   The   Black, African and Asian Therapy Network.  I have grown and refined my skills over a 30-year experience in Health   &   Social   Care   at   the   tertiary   level, focussing   on   health   recovery, maintenance, communication     and     counselling.     As     an academician, I   have   been   involved   in   the design   and   delivery   of   health   and   social   care programmes in various capacities, initially at a College   of   Health [since   1982]   and   latterly   as a University Senior Lecturer [1996-2012]. My roles included being   a   Pathway   &   Module   Leader   and   Tutor for   a   range   of   under-graduate   and   post graduate   courses   and   external   examiner   at three different Universities.

I   specialise   in   individual, couple, group   and family   work   in   integrative   ways   using   a combination   of   systemic   and   psychodynamic ideas     in     the     main, and     incorporating appropriate   needs-based   interventions   from other    approaches     like     narrative, solution focussed and CBT.

I   have   recently   completed   the   BPS   Approved Certificate   in   Clinical   Supervision [CSAccred (Advanced)] with SDS Seminars Ltd.

I welcome counselling       students, newly       qualified counsellors, therapists, health   and   social   care practitioners   who   would   like   to   avail   of   my professional and/or personal supervision.

About My Therapy

Counselling is confidential, non-judgemental and conducted in a safe, trusting environment with the treatment plan being guided by your health, well-being, healing   needs   and   your comfort   in   embarking   on   the   journey   to   get there.
